Cost-efficient residential proxies, our review in 2025

Our business relies heavily on data, and as we collect data from platforms like StockX and GOAT, their anti-bot systems naturally limit what our IPs can do on their servers.

Since December 2024, we have tested many proxy providers to find the most cost-effective and efficient options. Surprisingly, the cost of residential proxies has decreased significantly over the past few years, allowing us to find deals as low as $0.50 per gigabyte of data. I’d like to make a review of every options we tried and what worked the best for us.

Before we begin, I want to mention that we'll only focus on small packages or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) options. At SneakersAPI, we don't use more than 50GB of data per month from external sources. We believe that if you're starting a new project, you don't want to spend too much, just like us.

Smart Proxy

Smart Proxy is a popular and well-established solution. However, it is among the most expensive providers, with a PAYG rate of $7 per GB. They offer a rate of $2.20 per GB, but only for the largest package of 5TB, which results in an $11,000 bill.

We did not try their residential proxies package, though I’m sure it’s of good quality. We ordered 100 data-center IPs for $3.50 a month. They worked well with good response times. However, a package of 100 IPs was insufficient for us, leading to the pool being banned early. We had to look for other solutions.

Data Impulse

After testing data-center solutions, we quickly considered residential proxies, but most well-known providers were too expensive for us. Then, we found Data Impulse.

Data Impulse is one of the cheapest providers, offering a great deal at $1 per gigabyte of residential proxies. The only downside we found was the pool size, which is limited to 5 million IPs, with about 110,000 in the USA.

They offer HTTP and SOCKS5 support, geo-targeting (from country to city), sticky sessions, and per-request rotation. I believe their offer is one of the best on the market and sufficient for most projects.

Geonode

I think Geonode is a great option for those with a slightly higher budget. At the time of writing, Geonode offers only one package: $50 per month for 100GB, which comes to $0.50 per gigabyte. It's the cheapest I've seen on the market.

They provide a pool of 10 million IPs in 190 countries, and geo-targeting is supported. I had the chance to ask some questions on their Discord server, and the support team was very responsive, which is a nice bonus.

Currently, I don't use this solution because I don't need 100GB a month. However, I can say that their demo ($1 for 10GB over 3 days) worked really well, and they have an excellent dashboard for tracking your metrics.

Evomi

Evomi is a direct competitor to Geonode but offers more options. They provide a monthly package of 100GB for $49.99, just like Geonode. Additionally, they offer a Pay-As-You-Go option for $1 per gigabyte.

Evomi is actually one of the solutions we use daily at SneakersAPI, along with another solution that I’ll discuss next.

We use the Core Residential package at Evomi, which requires a minimum order of $15. It provides us with a pool of more than 5 million IPs, supports HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, offers geo-targeting, and allows unlimited threads. It’s also worth mentioning that they offer a Premium Residential package for $3.98 per GB. The main feature of the premium residential package is the ability to select between different IP pools: fastest, best quality, or balanced, which is useful for targets with complex bot protection.

Oculus Proxies

Along with Evomi, we currently use Oculus Proxies. While they aren't the cheapest residential proxy provider at $1.50 per GB, they offer many interesting packages that we are currently testing.

The first package is the ISP proxies, priced at $0.65 per GB. It's similar to what a residential proxy can do, which is sufficient for many websites and targets. The minimum order is $9.75 for 15GB.

The second package we are testing is the shared datacenter proxies. I mentioned earlier that Smart Proxies were not enough, and that's true because we only used a pool of 100 IPs. Oculus Proxies offer datacenter proxies on a pay-per-gigabyte basis, not pay-per-IP, allowing us to access a much larger pool at a very reasonable price. A $4.50 offer (the minimum possible) gives you access to 30GB of datacenter proxies. About a million IPs are available in the datacenter pool.

Final note

Today, with anti-bot protections, residential proxies have become essential for many businesses, including ours. We believe using proxies has helped us grow SneakersAPI.dev significantly, and we've added many features because of them.

Our favorite providers are Evomi and Oculus Proxies, although Geonode is also excellent, and we might consider it again in the future.

However, residential proxies won't solve everything! They can't bypass Cloudflare or advanced protections like PerimeterX/HUMAN security. Make sure to learn about TLS fingerprinting, header randomization, real-device simulation, and more! (Tip: Improving our TLS fingerprinting greatly reduced our ban rate on some platforms, even when using residential proxies).
